Match List - I with List - II.
Choose the correct answer from the options given below :
| List - I (Polymer) | List - II (Monomer) | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| (A) | Neoprene | (I) | Acrylonitrile |
| (B) | Teflon | (II) | Chloroprene |
| (C) | Acrilan | (III) | Tetrafluoroethene |
| (D) | Natural rubber | (IV) | Isoprene |
- (a) (A)-(II),(B)-(III),(C)-(I),(D)-(IV)
- (b) (A)-(II),(B)-(I),(C)-(III),(D)-(IV)
- (c) (A)-(II),(B)-(I),(C)-(IV),(D)-(III)
- (d) (A)-(I),(B)-(II),(C)-(III),(D)-(IV)
Answer and solution
Answer (a) (A)-(II),(B)-(III),(C)-(I),(D)-(IV)

Read each polymer's name for a clue to its monomer, then match all four and check the order.
- Name clues. Neoprene is a polychloroprene, so its monomer is chloroprene, CH₂=C(Cl)-CH=CH₂. Teflon is polytetrafluoroethene, made from tetrafluoroethene, CF₂=CF₂.
- The other two. Acrilan is the trade name of polyacrylonitrile (PAN), made from acrylonitrile, CH₂=CH-CN. Natural rubber is cis-1,4-polyisoprene, made from isoprene, CH₂=C(CH₃)-CH=CH₂.
Polymer Monomer Match (A) Neoprene Chloroprene (II) (B) Teflon Tetrafluoroethene (III) (C) Acrilan Acrylonitrile (I) (D) Natural rubber Isoprene (IV) - So. The matching is A–II, B–III, C–I, D–IV, which is option (a).
The idea to keep. Most polymer names carry the monomer inside them: poly-chloroprene, poly-tetrafluoroethene, poly-acrylonitrile. Learn the trade names (Neoprene, Teflon, Acrilan) next to their full poly- names.
