Read the two symptoms separately: one tells you the range, the other tells you the shape of the cornea.
- Distant object blurred. The far-away mesh looks blurred to her. Trouble with distant objects is myopia (short-sightedness): the image of a far object forms in front of the retina.
- Mesh looks distorted. A uniform mesh has vertical and horizontal lines. If the cornea curves more in one plane than the other, lines in one direction focus sharply while lines in the other stay blurred, so the uniform grid looks uneven and distorted. That is astigmatism.
Defect Main symptom Matches here? Myopia Far objects blurred Yes, distant mesh not sharp Hypermetropia Near objects blurred No Presbyopia Near vision fades with age No Astigmatism Lines in one direction sharp, others blurred Yes, mesh looks non-uniform - So. Both symptoms are present, so the diagnosis is myopia with astigmatism, option (b).
The idea to keep. Match each symptom to its own defect. Blurred far objects means myopia, blurred near objects means hypermetropia, and a grid looking distorted means astigmatism.
