On celcius scale the temperature of body increases by 40° C. The increase in temperature on Fahrenheit scale is :
- (a) 75° F
- (b) 70° F
- (c) 72° F
- (d) 68° F
Answer and solution
Answer (c) 72° F
Solution
Physics sir · 3 steps
A change in temperature has no offset: only the size of the degree matters, and one °C step is 9/5 °F.
- Compare the scales. Between the ice point and the steam point, the Celsius scale has 100 divisions and the Fahrenheit scale has 212 - 32 = 180 divisions. So 1°C of change equals 180/100 = 9/5 of a Fahrenheit degree.
- Drop the 32. The 32 in F = 9/5C + 32 only shifts where zero sits. When you subtract two readings it cancels, so a change follows the ratio alone.
Δ F = 9/5 Δ C = 9/5 × 40 = 72
- So. The temperature rises by 72°F, which is option (c).
The idea to keep. For a temperature difference, use Δ F = 9/5Δ C with no 32 added. The offset matters only when you convert an actual reading, never a change.
