Math List - I with List - II.
Choose the correct answer from the options given below :

List I (Metal)List II (Ores)
(a)Aluminium(i)Siderite
(b)Iron(ii)Calamine
(c)Copper(iii)Kaolinite
(d)Zinc(iv)Malachite
  1. (a) (a)-(iv), (b)-(iii), (c)-(ii), (d)-(i)
  2. (b) (a)-(i), (b)-(ii), (c)-(iii), (d)-(iv)
  3. (c) (a)-(iii), (b)-(i), (c)-(iv), (d)-(ii)
  4. (d) (a)-(ii), (b)-(iv), (c)-(i), (d)-(iii)
Answer and solution

Answer (c) (a)-(iii), (b)-(i), (c)-(iv), (d)-(ii)

Solution

Chemistry ma’am · 3 steps

Read each ore's formula and the metal jumps out: siderite is iron, kaolinite is aluminium.

  1. Use the formula. Each ore name stands for a compound. Write its formula, and the metal in it tells you which row it belongs to.
    OreFormulaMetal it gives
    (i) SideriteFeCO₃Iron, so (b)-(i)
    (ii) CalamineZnCO₃Zinc, so (d)-(ii)
    (iii) KaoliniteAl₂(OH)₄Si₂O₅Aluminium, so (a)-(iii)
    (iv) MalachiteCuCO₃.Cu(OH)₂Copper, so (c)-(iv)
  2. Note on kaolinite. Kaolinite is a clay, an aluminium silicate. Bauxite is the main ore of aluminium, but kaolinite is the aluminium mineral in this list.
  3. So. The matching is (a)-(iii), (b)-(i), (c)-(iv), (d)-(ii), which is option (c).

The idea to keep. Learn each ore with its formula, not just its name. Carbonate ores to remember: siderite FeCO₃, calamine ZnCO₃, malachite CuCO₃.Cu(OH)₂.
