Deficiency of vitamin K causes :
- (a) Cheilosis
- (b) Decrease in blood clotting time
- (c) Increase in blood clotting time
- (d) Increase in fragility of RBC's
Answer and solution
Answer (c) Increase in blood clotting time
Solution
Chemistry ma’am · 3 steps
Vitamin K is the clotting vitamin: take it away and blood takes longer to clot.
- What vitamin K does. The liver needs vitamin K to make prothrombin and several other clotting factors. Without these factors, the chain of reactions that forms a clot runs slowly.
- Effect of deficiency. With too little vitamin K, fewer active clotting factors are made. So blood takes longer to clot, and even small cuts can bleed for a long time (haemorrhage).
Option Actually linked to Cheilosis Vitamin B₂ (riboflavin) deficiency Decrease in clotting time The opposite of vitamin K deficiency Increase in clotting time Vitamin K deficiency Increased fragility of RBCs Vitamin E deficiency - So. Deficiency of vitamin K causes an increase in blood clotting time, option (c).
The idea to keep. Pair each vitamin with its one signature deficiency: K with slow clotting, E with fragile RBCs, B₂ with cheilosis, C with scurvy, D with rickets, A with night blindness.
