Answer (c) Tranquilizer
Solution

Spot the benzodiazepine ring: a benzene fused to a seven-membered ring with two N marks a tranquilizer.
- Read the structure. A benzene ring carrying Cl is fused to a seven-membered ring that contains two nitrogen atoms. This fused system is called a 1,4-benzodiazepine, and the drug name, chlor-diazep-oxide, carries the same clue.
- Link structure to class. Benzodiazepines act on the central nervous system. They reduce anxiety and calm the patient, which is what tranquilizers do. Chlordiazepoxide and its close relative diazepam (valium) are both standard NCERT examples of tranquilizers.
Class What it does Typical examples Antacid neutralises or cuts excess stomach acid Mg(OH)₂, ranitidine, cimetidine Analgesic relieves pain aspirin, paracetamol, morphine Tranquilizer relieves stress and anxiety, calms the mind chlordiazepoxide, meprobamate, valium, barbiturates Antibiotic kills or stops the growth of microbes penicillin, chloramphenicol - So. Chlordiazepoxide is a tranquilizer, option (c).
The idea to keep. Learn the NCERT drug lists by class. Benzodiazepines (chlordiazepoxide, valium), meprobamate and barbiturates are all tranquilizers that calm anxiety; they do not relieve pain.
