Solution

Block histamine and you stop two things at once: allergy symptoms and acid release in the stomach.
- What histamine does. Histamine causes allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching and a runny nose. It also tells the stomach wall to release hydrochloric acid. It acts on different receptors for each job.
Histamine action blocked Example drugs Use Allergic response Brompheniramine (Dimetapp), terfenadine (Seldane) Antiallergic Acid release in the stomach Cimetidine (Tagamet), ranitidine (Zantac) Antacid - Rule out the rest. Pain relief is the job of analgesics such as aspirin or morphine. Mood is the job of tranquilizers and antidepressants. Antihistamines do neither.
- So. Antihistamines work as both antacids and antiallergic drugs, which is option (b).
The idea to keep. Classify a drug by what it blocks. Block histamine and you stop both allergy symptoms and stomach acid release, so antihistamines are antiallergic and antacid.
