Match List - I and List - II.

List IList II
(a)Valium(i)Antifertility drug
(b)Morphine(ii)Pernicious anaemia
(c)Norethindrone(iii)Analgesic
(d)Vitamin B₁₂(iv)Tranquilizer
  1. (a) (a)-(i), (b)-(iii), (c)-(iv), (d)-(ii)
  2. (b) (a)-(iv), (b)-(iii), (c)-(ii), (d)-(i)
  3. (c) (a)-(ii), (b)-(iv), (c)-(iii), (d)-(i)
  4. (d) (a)-(iv), (b)-(iii), (c)-(i), (d)-(ii)
Answer and solution

Answer (d) (a)-(iv), (b)-(iii), (c)-(i), (d)-(ii)

Solution

Chemistry ma’am · 4 steps

Name what each drug does to the body, and the four pairs fall into place one by one.

  1. Calming drugs. Valium (diazepam) is a benzodiazepine that relieves anxiety and stress. That makes it a tranquilizer, so (a) goes with (iv).
  2. Pain and hormones. Morphine is a narcotic analgesic used for severe pain, so (b) goes with (iii). Norethindrone is a synthetic progesterone used in birth control pills, an antifertility drug, so (c) goes with (i).
    List IWhat it isList II
    (a) Valiumbenzodiazepine, reduces anxiety(iv) Tranquilizer
    (b) Morphinenarcotic, relieves severe pain(iii) Analgesic
    (c) Norethindronesynthetic progesterone(i) Antifertility drug
    (d) Vitamin B₁₂needed to make red blood cells(ii) Pernicious anaemia
  3. Vitamin B12. A lack of vitamin B₁₂ causes pernicious anaemia, so (d) goes with (ii).
  4. So. The full match is (a)-(iv), (b)-(iii), (c)-(i), (d)-(ii), which is option (d).

The idea to keep. For drug-matching questions, learn one example drug for each class: tranquilizers, analgesics, antifertility drugs, and which vitamin prevents which deficiency disease.
