Chapters in our bank that no 2027 unit names
Some questions in our bank are tagged to chapters the 2027 syllabus doesn't name as a unit. They are counted here, not under any unit above.

Exam pattern (Paper 1)
| Subjects | Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with equal weightage |
|---|---|
| Questions | 75: 25 per subject, in two sections |
| Section A | 20 multiple-choice questions per subject |
| Section B | 5 questions per subject whose answer is a numerical value |
| Marks | 300: 100 per subject |
| Marking, both sections | +4 for a correct answer, -1 for an incorrect answer, 0 if unanswered or marked for review |
| Numerical answers | Entered as an integer with the on-screen keypad, rounded off to the nearest integer |
| Time | 3 hours (4 hours for PwD/PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe) |
| Mode | Computer Based Test (CBT) only |
Since 2025, Section B has had no choice: NTA's 2025 bulletin sets 5 numerical questions per subject, and all of them count. NTA's 2023 bulletin had 10 per subject, of which candidates attempted any 5.
Source: NTA's 2027 information bulletin, sections 2.3 to 2.5.
Did the syllabus change for 2027?
No. NTA's 2027 syllabus is word for word the same as its 2026 syllabus, apart from the year in the title. We compared the text of NTA's syllabus PDFs year by year:
- 2027 and 2026: The same text, word for word, apart from the year in the title. (2027 syllabus, 2026 syllabus)
- 2026 and 2025: The same text, apart from the year in the title. (2026 syllabus, 2025 syllabus)
- 2025 and 2024: NTA tidied the wording of many units, and Physics no longer lists scalars and vectors under Kinematics. Vector Algebra is still a Mathematics unit. (2025 syllabus, 2024 syllabus)
What was removed in 2024
In 2024, NTA cut the Paper 1 syllabus from 65 units to 54.
Physics: Communication Systems was removed as a whole unit.
Chemistry: Hydrogen, s-Block Elements, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Metals (Metallurgy), Surface Chemistry, States of Matter, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life and Environmental Chemistry were removed as whole units.
Mathematics: Mathematical Induction and Mathematical Reasoning were removed as whole units.
Units that stayed but lost topics include p-Block Elements, Three Dimensional Geometry and Trigonometry.
See JEE Main chapters removed in 2024, with how often they were asked before and after the cut.
How we counted
- Unit names and sub-topics are NTA's, quoted from the PDF as written. Unit names are shown in normal letter case, with two spellings corrected: NTA's PDF prints "INTEGRAL CALCULAS" and "DIFFRENTIAL EQUATIONS".
- Formulas, Greek letters and the list of integrals are pictures or symbol fonts in NTA's PDF, so we typed them out from the page.
- Questions are counted from PrepWiser's JEE Main question bank: every question from the 2024 to 2026 papers, by the chapter it is tagged to. A question asked in two shifts counts twice.
- Per paper uses only the 2025 and 2026 papers, which have the 2027 pattern: questions from those papers divided by the number of those papers in our bank. The papers themselves had 90 questions in 2021–24, when each subject offered 10 numerical questions and students answered 5, and 75 in 2020 and 2025–26. So 2024 papers count in the totals but not in the per-paper figures.
- In these 2025 papers our bank has one question fewer than NTA's 25 for the subject named: Physics, 28 January evening; Chemistry, 22 January evening, 28 January morning, 3 April morning, 4 April morning and 7 April morning; Mathematics, 22 January morning and 24 January evening. Subject figures also leave out the chapters no 2027 unit names, so they sit a little under NTA's 25.
- Each of our chapters is counted under one NTA unit. Where a chapter touches two units, it sits under the unit that names most of it.
- Our tags are by chapter, not by sub-topic, so these counts can't tell which topics inside a unit were asked. A few questions may be tagged to the wrong chapter, so read the numbers as approximate.
Every unit, its chapters and their questions per year, as a CSV.
